In a major push towards financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment, the ditrict administration has begun block-wise rollout of the MeraBills digital bookkeeping application for rural women micro-entrepreneurs.
Launched on November 10 under the district administration’s Digital and Financial Literacy Programme and supported by Vardhman’s Nari Shakti initiative, the project entered its active implementation phase today with dedicated orientation sessions held for Master Trainers and women entrepreneurs in Ludhiana-1 and Ludhiana-2 blocks.
Speaking at the events, district officials emphasized that the user-friendly MeraBills app will enable women to maintain transparent, real-time business records, track income and expenses systematically, and generate reports crucial for availing government schemes, bank credit, and institutional loans.
A senior district official stated that the initiative is under direct supervision of officials to ensure every woman micro-entrepreneur benefits from digital financial management. He added that accurate bookkeeping is the foundation for scaling up businesses and accessing formal finance – this app makes it simple and accessible even on basic smartphones. He also informed that the administration has assured continued hand-holding support, regular monitoring, and block-wise expansion in the coming days to achieve 100% coverage across all rural areas of the district.
With thousands of women already engaged in micro-enterprises ranging from tailoring and food processing to handicrafts and retail, the MeraBills rollout is expected to significantly strengthen financial discipline, boost credit-worthiness, and accelerate economic independence among Ludhiana’s rural women.
